Everyone goes through a dry spell at one point in time. It is not that uncommon and all you need is some sparks of inspiration to reboot your creativity.

Here are 3 tips to help you find that spark.

1. Participate in a photo challenge

A photo challenge sets up a number of photography tasks for you to achieve within a specific time period. It creates an excellent direction for you to follow.

Depending on what you choose to participate in, you could be practising taking photos of a certain genre or with a specific element. In anyways, it allows you to hone your skills without exerting too much pressure on yourself.

You can source photo challenge ideas on Google.

2. Learn a new skill

Most of us adhere to one style or one sort of technique because we are most familiar with or most comfortable with it. However, there is a wide variety of techniques or styles in the world of photography that one could pick up on.

One possible reason why you lack inspiration could be due to the overly repetitive work that you have been doing without the excitement of trying something new. Perhaps, it is an excellent time to put the camera down for a while and pick up a new skill to relive the joy of learning something new.

You can pick up on a new camera technique or post-production style through online courses, tutorials or workshops near you.

3. Browse through others’ works and blogs

The works and blogs of other photographers are documentations of their creative journey, and sometimes, by browsing these materials, you will see new perspectives. These perspectives can help generate a new creative direction for you to explore.

Through these materials, you can also feel the passion and deep interests that other fellow members of the photography community have for what they do. It might remind you of why you chose to do this in the first place and help reignite your love for photography.

You can find others’ works and blogs on Instagram, online blogs or real-life exhibitions.
